
Department of Psychiatric Social Work
The department of psychiatric social work was established in the year 2007 at Central India Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences under the guidance of Dr. Pramod R Gupta (Director & Psychiatrist). The department seeks to enhance the social functioning of individuals, singly and in groups, by activities focused upon their social relationships which constitute the interaction between man and his environment. The department was started the M.Phil in psychiatric social work course in the year of 2021 at this institute and affiliated by Hemchand Yadav University, Durg (with intake of 30 students per batch).
>Clinical services:
The department take detail case workup and psychosocial assessments of the patients At times. They may perform psychotherapy and even diagnose mental illness. Psychiatric social worker evaluates the root of the patient’s problems and provide to individual counselling, insight to integrate cognitive, behavior modification, group therapy, marital therapy, family therapy and etc and also providing communication and links to hospitals and community resources.
>Departmental activities:
The Department has well trained and qualified faculty members. The departmental conducts regular academic classes and weekly departmental seminars and psychotherapy meetings based on the course curriculum for the students as well as for students of other disciplines such as Psychiatric Social Work and Psychiatric Nursing. The trainees are required to present and participate in departmental case conferences, seminars and journal clubs.
